Mid-19th Century Beech, Hancock & Co. Asiatic Pheasants Tureen Set

$695.00
Description

England, c. 1851–1855 | Burslem, Staffordshire

Before Le Creuset, there was this.

Crafted by Beech, Hancock & Co. during the company's short-lived production in Burslem, Staffordshire, this remarkable Asiatic Pheasants tureen has managed to hold onto something far rarer than beautiful transferware: its family.

Complete with its matching underplate and original serving ladle, this Victorian set has survived more than 170 years largely intact—a rarity, considering most examples were separated long ago.

The beloved Asiatic Pheasants pattern has graced English tables since the mid-19th century, admired for its delicate blue florals, graceful birds, and timeless ability to make a kitchen feel collected rather than decorated. Over generations, the glaze has mellowed into warm cream tones with beautiful antique crazing that simply can't be replicated.

Whether displayed on a Welsh dresser, layered into open shelving, or taking center stage on a dining table, this is one of those heirloom pieces that quietly elevates everything around it.

Finding an antique tureen isn't difficult. Finding one that still remembers where everyone belongs is.

Originally made for serving Sunday roast.

Today, we'd let it become the conversation.

atop a kitchen island filled with garden branches
on open shelving alongside brass candlesticks and English transferware
exactly as it has survived for over 170 years—with its platter and original ladle together.

Some pieces deserve to stay together.
