Description

Early 20th-Century French Art Deco Cut Crystal Box with Gilt Brass Details
With original working key, Baccarat, No markings

A stunning example of early 20th-century French design, this Art Deco cut crystal casket features exquisite craftsmanship and elegant gilt brass (ormolu) details. Often referred to as a glove box, this piece is as functional as it is decorative—perfect for storing keepsakes, jewelry, or simply elevating a vignette with timeless French style.

The egg-and-dart motif on the gilt trim (see close-up photos) adds a layer of classical sophistication, beautifully offsetting the geometric cut of the crystal body. While unmarked, the style and quality are strongly attributed to Baccarat.

Item Condition

Very Good Condition: the crystal casket shows only minimal signs of wear, with light surface scratches on the bottom and very small chips to the top and bottom corners—subtle and not easily noticeable, but noted for accuracy.

There appears to be clear adhesive reinforcement inside the box, likely used to secure or stabilize the crystal. This is visible when the box is opened—please refer to the photos for a closer look. The gilt brass (aged to a beautiful patina) remains in lovely condition with no structural issues.

As always, if you'd like additional photos or a video, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to provide more details.

This French faceted cut crystal casket with engraved scroll bronze ormolu mountings brings just the right touch of old-world elegance to any space. Whether styled in a bedroom, living room, office, or even atop a hallway console, this piece delivers timeless charm without ever feeling overdone.

Use it to tuck away jewelry or cherished keepsakes—or leave it open to display small art pieces or photos. Personally? I'd place it on top of a stack of beautiful coffee table books and let it shine solo. It’s a truly magnificent French antique that knows how to make a statement.
