Signed C. Alavedra and dated 1949, this original figure study was sourced in Barcelona, where it quietly spent decades before finding its way into The Country House Collection.
Drawn with loose, assured lines, the study captures two views of the human figure: one standing, the other seated. It has the immediacy that makes original sketches so compelling. Every confident mark remains visible. Every hesitation does too.
The artist has not been conclusively identified, though the Spanish signature, Barcelona provenance, and date place the work within the atmosphere of postwar Catalonia.
Still housed in its original gilt frame, it has developed the soft patina only seventy-five years can create. The frame’s restrained ornament gives the drawing just enough ceremony without taking away from its intimacy.
